MERIDIAN, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's soccer program kicked off the 2015 season in dominating fashion Tuesday as they shutout Meridian Community College, 3-0.
The Indians (1-0) had to shake off the first game nerves with seven starters playing in their first colligate game, but the experienced sophomores took control early. Sophomore's Graves Marshall (Corinth) and Blake Lashlee (Olive Branch) led the charge when they teamed up for the game's first goal. At the thirteenth minute, Lashlee raced down the sideline and found Marshall who drove it home to give the Indians a 1-0 lead that they would hold at halftime.
Early in the second half, the freshman took their turn as Zach Ellis (Tupelo) connected with Bennett Mills (Corinth), who found the back of the net from the outside to give the Indians a 2-0 lead. Will Bevill (Chelsea, AL) scored the Indians final goal off an assist from Marshall at the fifty fourth minute.
The Indians controlled possession for most of the contest and held the Eagles to only three shots on goal. However, the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick in the second half, but freshman keeper Keaton Halbert (Tupelo) made the huge save to preserve the shutout and give the Indians the 3-0 victory.
Wednesday the Indains will hit the road again as they travel to Ellisville to take on the Jones County Junior College Bobcats at 6:00.
