
PULASKI, Tenn. – The Itawamba Community College men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 road win over UT Southern on Wednesday.
The Indians trailed 1-0 after doubles play when the Firehawks secured the point. Joan Mateu Ramis Pascual (Manacor, Spain) and Knox Waterer (Belden) fell to Guilherme Cupertino and Rage Matcuk at No. 1 doubles, 6-3; and Ben Orr (Fulton) and Santiago Diaz (Buenos Aires, Argentina) lost to Ethan Porterfield and Gaspar Audisio at No. 3, 6-1. Jack Semper (Hackney, England) and Luca Hoffmann (Starkville) picked up a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles over Felipe Dias and Brock Hamilton.
When singles play started, the Indians turned the tables on UT Southern and didn't look back. Ramis Pascual secured No. 1 singles in a 6-1, 4-6 [10-8] win over Hamilton; Waterer followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Porterfield at No. 2, and Semper defeated Oscar Moreno, 7-5, 6-7 [10-3], to secure No. 3. At No. 4, Diaz picked up the 3-6, 6-3 [10-7] win over Gabrielle Kosaka, and Hoffman defeated Alejandro Pastrana at No. 5, 6-4, 6-2. Orr secured the singles sweep over the Firehawks in a 2-6, 6-2 [10-0] win over Reece Holcomb.
The Indians will be back in action on Friday, March 28, at 2 p.m. against East Central in Decatur.
