
MOORHEAD, Miss. – The No. 21 Indians opened conference play on the right note with a road sweep over Mississippi Delta on Friday.
Game 1: Indians 10, Trojans 1 (5 innings)
The Indians took care of business in game one against the Trojans with a 10-1 game one victory.
ICC got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Maddie Porter and Joryie McKnight each scored on a steal of home. Taylar Shands made it a 3-0 lead for the Indians with a solo home run in the second.
After Delta got a run back in the third, the Indians went up 6-1 in the fourth when Shands hit her second home run of the contest followed by Houston Rea Grantham scoring on an error and an RBI single from Jenna Whitfield that scored McKnight.
In the fifth, ICC put four more runs across the plate after Shands singled to score Ella Duhon and Shands scored on a passed ball before Porter hit a two-run home run to get the Indians their 10th run of the contest.
Ella Lilly picked up the win for the Indians, tossing a complete game where she struck out four batters and walked one while allowing one run on two hits.
Shands went 3-for-3 at the plate while Porter picked up two hits. Shands also had three RBIs and Porter added two.
Game 2: Indians 6, Trojans 3
ICC secured the road sweep over the Trojans with a 6-3 win in game two.
The Indians struck first in the top of the first inning when Maddie Porter scored after tagging up and Taylar Shands delivered an RBI single that scored Laklyn Nichols.
In the top of the third, Shands hit her third home run of the day to put ICC up 4-0. A sacrifice bunt from Morgan Green in the fourth allowed Zoe Goodman to score.
Maddie McClendon got the Indians their sixth run of the contest off a solo home run to left in the sixth.
Delta put three runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth, but the Indians held on for the 6-3 win.
