
FULTON, Miss. – The Indians picked up a conference sweep over Southwest on Saturday at Andy Kirk Field.
Game 1: Indians 10, Bears 2 (6 innings)
Itawamba used a big fifth inning en route to the 10-2 win over Southwest in game one.
An RBI single delivered by Laklyn Nichols put the Indians on the board first in the third inning. It was in the fifth inning when ICC cut loose with six runs scored. Joryie McKnight delivered a 2 RBI single, then she and Maddie Porter both scored on bases-loaded walks, Morgan Green scored after Ella Duhon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Neely Hodum scored on a wild pitch.
After the Bears answered with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, the Indians put the game on ice when Morgan Green hit a three-run home run to secure the run-rule win.
Alyssa Clifft earned the win for ICC after striking out five batters and allowing two runs (zero earned) on three hits in the complete game effort.
McKnight led with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate while Green went 1-for-2 with three RBIs.
Game 2: Indians 10, Bears 1 (5 innings)
The Indians carried the momentum from game one into game two with a 10-1 win over Southwest, in five innings.
ICC set the tone early in the first inning, scoring five runs. Maddie Porter used a sacrifice fly to score Laklyn Nichols and Sadie Stegall doubled to score Joryie McKnight, AB Marlar and Ella Duhon. Tayler Graham delivered an RBI single to score Stegall and make it a 5-0 advantage.
Duhon doubled in the third to score Morgan Green and put ICC up 6-0. Four runs came in the fourth for the Indians when Porter singled to score McKnight followed by a three-run home run from Taylar Shands that made it 10-0 in favor of ICC.
The Bears got on the board in the top of the fifth with a solo home run, but that was all the Indians allowed on their way to securing the sweep.
Ella Lilly picked up the win for ICC, going four innings with three strikeouts and having allowed one run on two hits.
McKnight and Stegall each had two hits for the Indians. Stegall and Shands each drove in three runs.
