
FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College's volleyball team opened the season with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Chattanooga State on Friday in five sets (25-22; 15-25; 25-22; 23-25; 15-10).
After the Indians (1-0, 0-0 MACCC) won the opening set, 25-22, the Tigers (0-1) bounced back to take the second, 25-15, which led to a back-and-forth match between the two squads.
ICC rebounded to take the third set, 25-22, followed by Chattanooga State's winning the fourth, 25-23, to force a decisive fifth set, which the Indians won, 15-10, for the 3-2 match win.
Bree Lyons (Oxford) posted a team-best 13 kills in the Indians' victory while McLaine Dorr (Gluckstadt) added seven to the stat sheet.
Kensley Woolbright (New Hope) led the Indians with 19 digs as Natalie Nix (Florence, Ala.), Kylie Graham (Moulton, Ala.) and Lyons each added six. Presley Jones (Killen, Ala.) posted a team-best 22 assists.
The Indians will face Calhoun at 6 p.m. in its final match of the day.
