
PERKINSTON, Miss. – The No. 21 Indians picked up a split on the road at No. 20 Gulf Coast on Tuesday.
Game 1: Indians 11, Bulldogs 3 (5 innings)
The Indians used a big third inning to cruise to the 11-3 game one victory over Gulf Coast, in five innings.
ICC opened the scoring in the top of the second when Tayler Graham used a 2 RBI double to score Taylar Shands and Jenna Whitfield. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at 2-2.
In the third inning, the Indians surged with a nine-run outing. AB Marlar grounded out to score Maddie Porter, Ella Duhon hit a two-run home run, Sadie Stegall scored on a bases-loaded walk, Maddie McClendon hit a bases-clearing RBI triple and Marlar singled to score Laklyn Nichols.
In the circle, Ella Lilly tossed a complete game with a pair of strikeouts while giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
Nichols and Graham each led with two hits while Porter, McClendon, Marlar, Duhon, Whitfield and McKnight each added one. McClendon and Duhon each drove in three runs.
Game 2: Bulldogs 3, Indians 2
The Indians' late rally fell short as they dropped a 3-2 decision in game two at Gulf Coast.
The Bulldogs struck first in the bottom of the third inning with two runs and added another in the bottom of the fourth.
In the top of the seventh, ICC got on the board when Taylar Shands used a 2 RBI double to score Joryie McKnight and Laklyn Nichols.
Alyssa Clifft was the pitcher of record for the Indians as she struck out three batters while giving up three runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
Nichols and McKnight each had two hits while Shands added one.
