FULTON, Miss. – They say to play until the final buzzer. That was the mindset Vanessa Baugatz (Berlin, Germany) had when she scored a goal on an assist from Isobell Kinsella (Gloucestershire, United Kingdom) in the final minutes, lifting the Lady Indians to a 2-1 win over Pellissippi State on Sunday.
Baugatz scored the first goal to give ICC (2-0, 0-0 MACCC) an early 1-0 lead with 25:21 left in the first half. Not longer after, the Lady Panthers (0-2) answered with a goal to tie the game.
After the halftime break, it was a back-and-forth defensive battle until Baugatz's heroics in the match's final moments.
Baugatz led the Lady Indians with four shots on goal followed by Kinsella and Millie Webb (Rugby, England), three each.
Annabelle Holman (Amory) recorded two saves in the victory before leaving the match with an injury. Kyla Kate Huffman (Pelahatchie), who substituted, recorded five saves for ICC.
The Lady Indians will be back in action on Aug. 30 when they travel to Harriman, Tenn. for a 4 p.m. match with Roane State.
