
FULTON, MS - The Lady Indians put together a dominant performance to secure a 66-43 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the second round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
The Lady Indians jumped out to a 19-14 lead in the first quarter, with Jestiny Dixon leading the charge. Dixon had a standout performance, contributing 19 points, 12 rebounds, and a 10 steals to record a triple-double.
The Lady Indians extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-12 to head into halftime with a 40-26 advantage. I'Xana Winters came off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points.
In the third quarter, the Lady Indians continued to assert their dominance, holding Gulf Coast to just 10 points while adding 16 of their own. Their defense, anchored by Dixon and supported by strong rebounding from players like D'Naylah Williams and Briyana Turner, limited second-chance opportunities and forced tough shots. Williams pulled down 7 rebounds while Turner added 5 boards and 8 points.
While the Lady Indians' offense cooled slightly in the final quarter, scoring only 10 points, their defense remained solid as they held Gulf Coast to just 7 points in the final frame.
The Lady Indains shot an impressive 46.6% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range. Their balanced scoring attack, along with a 40-27 rebounding advantage and relentless defensive pressure, proved to be the difference.
