Holman, Davis come up clutch in ICC shootout win over Jones

FULTON, Miss. – Annabelle Holman (Amory) made a save and Maddie Davis (Stonewall) scored the decisive goal to send the Lady Indians to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 semifinals with a shootout win over the defending national champions Jones College on Saturday.

The No. 12 Lady Bobcats (11-5) took an 1-0 advantage after successfully converting on the opening kick. Millie Webb (Rugby England) found the back of the net to match the first attempt. Holman dove to her left and deflected the second attempt by the Bobcats.

The No. 19 Lady Indians (13-3) took a 2-1 advantage when Isobel Kinsella (Gloucestershire, United Kingdom) bounced a shot off the crossbar for the goal. Jones pulled even after successfully converting their next attempt. Bella Moore (Olive Branch) powered one off the fingertips of the keeper to retake the lead. Jones went top shelf to find the answer and pull even, 3-3.

The Bobcat keeper made a diving save to keep the match tied heading to the fifth shootout round. Jones sailed the potential game-winning kick over the crossbar, leaving the door open for Davis to etch her name in the Lady Indians' history books.

After the whistle sounded and a few tense seconds of silence, the Lady Indians stormed the field to celebrate with an emotional Davis as her right-footed shot found the back of the net to give the Lady Indians the win.

The Lady Bobcats took a 1-0 lead with just over 12 minutes left in the match. Webb went top shelf to find the equalizer with nine minutes left in regulation. Holman made two brilliant saves in overtime to force the match into the shootout.

The Lady Indians will face No. 1 Northwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. The winner of the match will face the winner between No. 5 Holmes Community College and No. 10 Pearl River Community College for the Region 23 championship on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.

Jones College is hosting the men and women regional tournaments. Tickets are available for $10 at jcbobcats.com/tickets or $15 cash only at the gate.
