
FULTON, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College softball suffered a pair of losses to No. 13 Northwest on Wednesday.
Game 1: Rangers 6, Indians 4 (8 innings)
ICC dropped a hard-fought game one against the Rangers, 6-4, in a contest that went into eight innings.
Northwest got on the board in the first inning with two runs crossing home plate. The Indians would respond and plate three runs in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. A successful bunt by AB Marlar scored both Laklyn Nichols and Joryie McKnight to tie the game and Maddie Porter broke the tie with an RBI double.
After the Rangers scored two more runs in the top of the seventh, ICC tied it up once again when Tayler Graham scored on a bases-loaded walk to send the game into extra innings.
However, Northwest scored two more runs in the top of the eight to take the lead, and the Indians weren't able to generate a rally in the bottom half of the inning.
Alyssa Clifft was the pitcher of record for ICC, going eight innings and striking out two batters while allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits.
Nichols led the Indians with two hits while McKnight, Marlar and Porter each added one.
Game 2: Rangers 6, Indians 4
ICC got on the board first in the first inning when Joryie McKnight delivered an RBI single to score Laklyn Nichols followed by a single from AB Marlar that scored McKnight. The Indians added a run to their lead in the second after Nichols singled to score Jenna Whitfield.
After Northwest tied the game with three runs in the top of the third, a nearly two-hour lightning delay paused play heading into the bottom half of the inning.
After play resumed, the Rangers took the lead with two runs scored in the fourth. Kamdyn Taylor made it a one-run game in the sixth when she doubled to score Maddie Porter.
The Rangers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI ground out to mark the game's final score, 6-4.
Ella Lilly was the pitcher of record for ICC, picking up a pair of strikeouts and issuing a walk while giving up six runs (five earned) on 12 hits.
Marlar led with two hits for ICC while she, Nichols and Taylor each drove in a run.
