TYLER, Texas – Rayssa Domingues and Lucia Rubio each advanced to the Round of 16 after dominant performances on the opening day of the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship at the JoAnn Medlock Murphy Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas.
Dominigues opened the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles over Sharon Calderon (Jacksonville). At No. 2 singles, Rubio cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lily Luna (Jacksonville).
The duo then teamed up in No. 1 doubles for a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nicole Nosbisch and Anne Oshana (Elgin).
In Sunday's Round of 16, Domingues will face Helen Hernandez (Jones) at 8 a.m. in No. 1 singles, and Rubio will take on Marqaylar Tere (Collin) in No. 2 singles at 8 a.m. The duo will return to the court at 11:45 a.m. for No. 1 doubles against Hernandez and Molly Bennett (Jones).
