RIDGELAND, MS -- A pair of early goals for the Holmes and bad breaks for the Indians ultimately led to the Bulldogs' 2-0 win.
"We didn't execute well enough to win," said ICC head soccer coach Mike Sullivan. "We had two poor executed clearances that led to a pair of goals and then we missed way too many scoring opportunities throughout the match."
The Bulldogs first goal came on a failed clearance from a deep throw-in in the fifth minute of the first half. The Indians had a chance to tie the match, but a shot from sophomore Hunter McGhie (Tupelo) struck the post allowing Holmes to take 1-0 lead into the break.
ICC started the second half strong, but could not capitalize on numerous scoring chances. Holmes took a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes left in the match after a defensive breakdown on the right wing led to a cross and another failed clearance.
"Hopefully this will be something that makes the guys work harder in practice and focus on executing better the rest of the season," said Sullivan.
The Indians will return to action on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. against traditional North Division power Hinds Community College.
