Fulton, Miss. – After suffering a tough loss in their last match, the Indians got back to their winning ways with an impressive 3-0 win over Snead State Wednesday night.
The Indians (12-6) fell behind early in all three sets but were able to battle back in each to pick up the straight set victory.
In the first set, the Indians called a timeout trailing 14-12, and came out of the timeout to score six straight points and end the set on a 13-3 run highlighted by kills from Morgan Ray (Clinton) and Mary Leslie Cranford (Covington, Tenn.) to pick up the 25-17 win.
The Indians fell behind 10-8 in the second set, but once again rallied and took an 18-14 lead off a Kate Nakagawa (Corinth) kill. However, Snead State battled back and cut the Indians lead down to one, 20-19.
Ray would close out the set for the Indians with a block for a point and take a 2-0 lead in the match with the 25-22 second set win.
The third and final set proved to be the most competitive of the three sets as the teams traded leads numerous times. A block by Cranford and Ray tied the set at 18-18 and the teams continued to trade points until Cranford finished off the Parsons with a kill to pick up the 26-24 win.
The Indians have now won seven of their last eight and they will jump back into region play Tuesday when they travel to Senatobia to face Northwest at 6 p.m.
