RAYMOND, MS – The Lady Indians improved to 3-0 on the season with a 9-5 road win over Hinds on Monday.
Sophomore Haley Moore (Booneville) and Arriann Henry (Ecru) combined for six of the Lady Indians' 12 hits while Courtney Roberts (Hatley) and Katelynn Downey (Liberty, MO) each added two hits in the game.
"Haley and Arriann did a good job for us," said Coach Andy Kirk. "They came up in key situation to either get on base, advance runners, or drive in runs for us. Overall, I felt like we had a pretty good day at the plate from top to bottom in our lineup, but we still have plenty of room for improvement."
Henry and Downey each hit their first home run of the season.
Hinds rallied to plate three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Lady Indians could get the final out of the contest to secure the four-run victory.
"We've got to do a better job of closing out games," said Kirk. "This is the second game this season that we've let teams back into the game and you can't afford to do that in this league because there are a lot of talented programs that can turn things around on you in a hurry."
Hannah Johnson (Branson, MO) recorded her second win after giving up five runs, one earned, on nine hits and one walk while striking out three in her second complete game of the season.
