FULTON, Miss. – The Indians enjoyed a run-ruling sweep over Coahoma in Tuesday's conference doubleheader at the ICC Softball Complex.
Game 1: Indians 13, Coahoma 0 (5 innings)
It was a big seven-run first inning that lifted the Indians towards a 13-0 win in game one over Coahoma in five innings.
The scoring began with Riley Tyree hitting a double that scored Hallie Turner and Jessi Smith, then Chloe McClain singled on a line drive to put Tyree and Julia Shaw across the plate. Tamiya Martin grounded out to score Allie Beckley, then Camdyn Cooper singled to score McClain followed by a pop fly by Turner that scored Cooper.
ICC added four more runs to go up 11-0 in the second inning when Shaw drew a single to push Tyree across the plate followed by a double from Cooper that scored Shaw and Martin, then Turner hit a single to score Cooper.
In the third, the Indians added two more runs after Zoey Rippee doubled on a line drive to score Smith followed by a flyout by McClain that scored Shaw.
Turner collected three hits while Smith, Tyree and Cooper each added two. McClain and Cooper each had three RBIs while Turner and Tyree each added two.
Shaw was the pitcher of record as she allowed no runs on one hit while striking out eight batters.
Game 2: Indians 9, Coahoma 0 (5 innings)
The Indians picked back up where they left off in game one and secured the sweep in a 9-0 game two win over Coahoma in five innings.
ICC struck first in the second inning when Allie Beckley singled to score Sadie Stegall followed by a sacrifice fly from Camdyn Cooper that scored Chloe McClain and Beckley, then Hallie Turner singled to score Tamiya Martin.
Sammie Day-Jones singled to score Turner followed by Day-Jones scoring on an error, then Riley Tyree hit a single to put Jessi Smith across the plate and put the Indians up 7-0 after two innings played.
A bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning scored Tyree before Emma Rose Thompson singled to score Stegall.
Alyssa Clifft recorded six strikeouts while allowing two hits in five innings of work.
The Indians will be back in action on Thursday, March 21 when they host Snead State for a doubleheader.
