TANNER, Ala. – The Indians dropped a doubleheader at Calhoun on Thursday.
Game 1: Calhoun 5, Indians 4 (8 innings)
The Indians dropped game one at Calhoun, 5-4, after the Warhawks walked it off in the bottom of the eighth.
ICC took an initial 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Riley Tyree scored on a fielder's choice and Sadie Stegall crossed home plate on a ground out by Chloe McClain.
The Warhawks answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead and added another run in the third to make it 4-2.
The Indians tied the game in the top of the seventh when Hallie Turner hit a ground ball to score Cooper followed by an RBI single by Sammie Day-Jones that scored Turner.
The Warhawks scored on an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to pitch up the win.
Day-Jones had two of the Indians' six hits in the game.
Lauren Brown was the pitcher of record as she went 3.1 innings, allowing zero runs on three hits.
Game 2: Calhoun 5, Indians 3
Despite piling up 11 hits, the Indians dropped game two at Calhoun, 5-3.
Down 4-0, ICC made it a one-run game in the top of the fifth when Allie Beckley singled on a pop fly to score Sammie Day-Jones and Jessi Smith followed by a successful bunt single by Tamiya Martin that allowed Beckley to score. The Warhawks answered with a run in the bottom half of the fifth to make it 5-3.
Smith, Martin and Tyree each had two of the Indians' total 11 hits. Beckley had a team-best two RBIs while Martin added one.
Julia Shaw was the pitcher of record as she gave up five runs, two earned, on 11 hits while striking out two batters.
The Indians will be back on the road again Saturday, April 6 when they travel to Wesson to take on Co-Lin in a conference doubleheader.
