Clifft tosses one-hitter in G2 win at Holmes

GOODMAN, Miss. – The Indians bounced back from a tough loss in game one and earned the split with Holmes behind a shutdown performance from Alyssa Clifft.

 

Game 2: Indians 4, Holmes 0

 

Clifft struck out five batters and allowed just one hit with no runs to help the Indians earn the split with Holmes in a 4-0 win in game two.

 

An RBI single by Camdyn Cooper in the top of the fourth inning scored Sadie Stegall and got the Indians on the board first. ICC added two more runs in the fifth inning when Chloe McClain drove in Laklyn Nichols followed by an flyout by Emma Rose Thompson to score McClain.

 

ICC put the exclamation point on the victory with a solo home run by Thompson to put the Indians up four in the top of the seventh.

 

Sammie Day-Jones and Stegall both collected two hits in the victory while Avery Wolfe, Nichols, McClain, Thompson and Cooper each added one.

Game 1: Holmes 4, Indians 3

 

The Indians dropped game one in a walkoff against Holmes, 4-3.

 

ICC struck first in the top of the second inning off a two-run home run to right by Julia Shaw. The Bulldogs responded with an RBI single in the third inning and an two-RBI double in the fifth to take the lead.

 

The Indians tied the game in the top of the seventh after Hallie Turner flew out to score Laklyn Nichols, but the Bulldogs won in the bottom half of the inning on a walkoff.

 

Sammie Day-Jones went two-for-four at the plate while Chloe McClain, Emma Rose Thompson and Shaw each added a hit.

 

The Indians will hit the road again on Saturday, March 16 when they travel to Perkinston for a conference doubleheader with Gulf Coast.
