ICC earns split with No. 13 Hinds

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians earned a split with No. 13 Hinds at the ICC Softball Complex on Saturday.

Game 1: Indians 4, No. 13 Hinds 3

The Indians took game one after Sammie Day-Jones singled to score Camdyn Cooper and Allie Beckley in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off against No. 13 Hinds, 4-3.

ICC struck first in the bottom of the first when Jessi Smith hit an RBI single to score Beckley. The Eagles then tied it up with a solo home run in the top of the second.

The Indians retook the lead in the third when Beckley scored on an error, but No. 13 Hinds used a two-run home run to pull ahead, 3-2, in the fourth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Cooper and Beckley had back-to-back singles to get on base and set up Day-Jones' walk-off heroics.

Beckley went four-for-four at the plate while Day-Jones and Smith each had two RBI.

Alyssa Clifft earned the win for the Indians, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out six batters.

Game 2: No. 13 Hinds 6, Indians 4

ICC's late comeback bid fell short as they dropped a 6-4 decision in game two to earn the split against No. 13 Hinds.

The Eagles scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead, then three more in the top of the sixth to make it 6-0.

The Indians got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Riley Tyree doubled to score Hallie Turner, and a single by Joryie McKnight brought in Tyree.

In the bottom of the seventh, Turner tightened the gap with a two-run home run, but the Indians couldn't complete the comeback attempt.

McKnight, Turner and Cooper each had two hits while Turner had two RBI.

Julia Shaw was the pitcher of record, giving up six runs, three earned, on 10 hits. The right-handed pitcher, who struck out six batters, surpassed 100 strikeouts on the season.

The Indians will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Senatobia to face Northwest.
