ELLISVILLE, Miss. – The No. 6 Indians rallied from a 4-0 deficit to force extra innings, but errors in the tenth inning allowed the Northwest Rangers to advance in the MACCC Tournament with an 8-5 win on Friday.
The Rangers (31-12) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second.
The Indians (38-9) answered in the home half of the second when Rayne Rippee singled to center field to score Caroline Clark. Kara Hays knifed a single to center field to score Hannah Henry in the fifth. Connor Stevens reached on a push bunt that score Maggie McVey to pull the Indians within a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Hays doubled to left to score Kaitie Boatner and tie the game, 4-4, in the bottom of the seventh.
Northwest regained the lead with a RBI single in the top of the ninth but the Indians answered again with a bases-load sacrifice fly by Clark that scored Boatner.
The Rangers pushed across a pair of runs on a throwing error before adding an insurance run on a single in the top of the 10th. The Indians got the tying run to plate but couldn't get the anything going to extend the game.
Clark went 3-for-4 with a run scored, RBI and double. Hays, Stevens, Rippee, Boatner and McKenzie Patterson each added a pair of hits to the Indians' 14 hits on the afternoon.
Emily Robinson pitched 8.1 innings and fell to 4-1 on the season after giving up four runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out five.
The Indians will wait to see who they'll face in next week's NJCAA Region 23 Tournament
