HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Indians dropped a pair of games on the road against No. 3 Wallace State on Wednesday.
Game 1: No. 3 Wallace State 15, Indians 5 (five innings)
The Indians started game one on the right note after a three-run showing in the top of the first, but couldn't get the momentum going as they fell to No. 3 Wallace State, 15-5, in five innings.
Down 9-3, ICC scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning after Sammie Day-Jones doubled to score Hallie Turner followed by a Riley Tyree single to score Day-Jones. But Wallace State responded with six runs in the following frame.
Tyree and Day-Jones both went two-for-two at the plate while Tyree and Avery Wolfe each recorded two RBIs.
Game 2: No. 3 Wallace State 7, Indians 5
The Indians had a runner on base in the top of the seventh inning, but they couldn't spark a rally as they fell to No. 3 Wallace State in game two, 7-5.
ICC struck first after Jessi Smith singled to score Hallie Turner in the top of the first inning. The next two runs for the Indians came in the top of the third inning off another RBI single by Smith to score Camdyn Cooper along with a sacrifice fly by Riley Tyree to score Sammie Day-Jones.
Wallace State cut into the Indians' lead with two runs on a walk and an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. But the Indians responded with an RBI triple by Joryie McKnight that scored Laklyn Nichols followed by Turner hitting a single to drive in McKnight.
Wallace State went on to score five unanswered runs to pick up the win.
Smith and Turner finished the day each with two hits while McKnight, Cooper and Whitfield each added a hit to the scorebook.
The Indians will be back in action on Saturday, February 17 when they face Kaskaskia at Veterans Park in Tupelo.
