Indians split with Wabash Valley

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – The Indians split with Wabash Valley in Booneville on Friday.

Game 1: Wabash Valley 7, Indians 3

The Indians had runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn't spark a two-out rally as they fell to Wabash Valley in game one, 7-3.

Julia Shaw doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Emma Rose Thompson in the bottom of the second inning for the Indians' first run of the contest.

The Indians scored their next two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Riley Tyree tripled to score Sammie Day-Jones followed by Shaw hitting a double to score Tyree.

Tyree went three-for-four at the plate and Shaw recorded two hits while each had an RBI.

Game 2: Indians 10, Wabash Valley 4

Sammie Day-Jones and Camdyn Cooper each recorded two RBIs as the Indians bounced back in game two over Wabash Valley, 10-4.

Down 2-0, the Indians took the lead in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back as Cooper singled to score Laklyn Nichols, then Day-Jones singled to score Cooper, and then Day-Jones got out of a rundown at home.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, ICC extended their lead after Emma Rose Thompson hit a solo home run followed by Cooper hitting a double to score Jenna Whitfield. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Julia Shaw added another run to the Indians' lead with a solo home run.

The Indians scored four more in the bottom of the sixth inning with Whitfield scoring on a passed ball, Chloe McClain scoring on a double by Day-Jones, Jessi Smith hitting a double to score Day-Jones, and then Smith scoring on a two-out error.

The Indians will be back in action on Wednesday, February 14 when they travel to Hanceville, Ala. to take on No. 13 Wallace State.
