BOONEVILLE, Miss. – The Indians dropped a hard-fought battle in game one and bounced back in game two to earn a split with rival Northeast on Tuesday.
Game 1: Northeast 3, Indians 1
Despite collecting seven hits, the Indians dropped game one at Northeast, 3-1.
The Tigers struck first in the fifth when they plated three runs. In the following inning, Riley Tyree hit an RBI single to score Sammie Day-Jones.
Tyree and Camdyn Cooper each had two hits in the contest while Day-Jones, Jessi Smith and Sadie Stegall each added one.
Alyssa Clifft was the pitcher of record as she gave up three runs on three hits while striking out two batters.
Game 2: Indians 8, Northeast 1
The Indians bounced back to earn the split after an 8-1 game two win against rival Northeast.
ICC opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to a double by Jessi Smith that scored Hallie Turner and Smith scoring on a double from Chloe McClain. In the fifth, Smith extended the Indians' lead with a solo home run to make it a 3-0 advantage.
It was in the sixth when the Indians cut loose.
ICC got five runs in the inning when Julia Shaw hit a two-run home run followed by a single from Sammie Day-Jones that scored Tamiya Martin and a single from Smith that scored Turner and Day-Jones.
Smith collected three hits while McClain, Shaw and Allie Beckley each added two. Smith had a team-best three RBIs while Shaw added two and Day-Jones and McClain, one each.
Shaw earned the win for the Indians after surrendering one run on three hits as she struck out four batters in seven innings of work.
The Indians will be back in action on Monday, April 1 when they return to the ICC Softball Complex for a doubleheader with Calhoun.
