FULTON, MS – Sophomore Tyreque Reed has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-American First Team.
The 6-foot-2, 260 pound first baseman and right fielder led the nation with a .504 batting average. He had 71 hits with 15 home runs, 15 doubles, and 1 triple. Reed added 57 RBIs and 53 runs scored along with six stolen bases and 46 walks while only striking out 11 times in 141 at-bats.
The Houlka native finished his sophomore season ranked in the Top 10 in five offensive categories in the NJCAA, first in batting average and on-base percentage (.638); second in slugging percentage (.943); eighth in walks; and tenth in home runs.

Reed was a unanimous selection for the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State First Team and NJCAA All-Region 23 Team. He joins softball's Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) and football's Terry Williams (Southaven) in earning NJCAA All-American honors this season.
Tyreque is the first baseball player to earn All-American status since former pitcher Ben Hudspeth (Tupelo) was a First Team selection in 2012 as a freshman.
Reed signed with the Mississippi State baseball program in late May and was drafted in the eighth round of the MLB draft by the Texas Rangers earlier this month.
All-American selections are made by the NJCAA Division II Bsaeball Committee.
