Hudspeth named NJCAA First-Team All-American

FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College's freshman pitcher Ben Hudspeth was named first-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) on Tuesday.
"It's a great honor and I give all the glory to God," said Hudspeth. "I'm really excited about being an All-American, but it's not just about me because none of this would have been possible without my teammates and coaches being behind me all year."
The Tupelo native finished the season with an 11-0 record, a 1.82 ERA, 65 strikeouts and one save in 74 innings pitched. He was also named to Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State and NJCAA All-Region 23 honors.
He was one of two freshmen on the 12-member first-team and one of six freshmen out of the 36 players selected as All-Americans by the NJCAA.
"It's a great honor for a freshman to be named an All-American," said ICC head baseball coach Rick Collier. "He's a great young man that works hard. I always tell all of our players that good things happen to the guys that work hard and he's an example of that."
Hudspeth helped lead the Indians (39-13) to a North Division title and the MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 semifinals while being ranked amongst the nation's Top 10 teams throughout the regular season. His 1.82 ERA ranked 13th in the NJCAA while his 11 wins was the third most in the nation this past season.
