SENATOBIA, MS – An early six run deficit proved to be too much for the Itawamba Community College baseball team to overcome as Northwest Mississippi Community College picked up game two, 9-4.
The Rangers (14-10, 6-6 MACJC) scored two runs in the opening frame and four in the second to jump out to an early 6-0 lead, but the Indians put themselves back in the game in the fourth scoring four runs to cut the lead to two, 6-4.
Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) sparked the Indian offense with a solo home run to left with one out. After a single by Bryan Malone (Belmont) and a ground out, Tyreque Reed (Houlka) hit a double off the right field fence to score Malone.
Dalton Hudspeth (Louisville) finished the scoring for the Indians (14-12, 2-8 MACJC) with a double in the right field gap to score Reed and Keith Stepter (Hernando).
Northwest answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and held the Indians to only one hit the rest of the game to pick up the 9-4 win and the series sweep.
The Indians will hit the road for another pair of MACJC games Saturday as they travel to Poplarville to take on Pearl River Community College, before returning to the friendly confides of Roy Cresap Field on Tuesday, April 5 against Coahoma Community College.
