FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College baseball's bats woke up in a big way, scoring seven runs in the fourth to propel them to a 13-1 run-rule victory over Williams Baptist (AR) Thursday.
The Indians (6-1) held a slim 2-1 lead after three and half complete in game one of the doubleheader, but after Coach Rick Collier gathered his team for a brief pep talk, the flood gates opened in the bottom half of the fourth.
Hagan Box (French Camp) reached on an error to start the inning and the next six Indians reach base safely including four consecutive hits by Russ Payne (Fulton), Dalton Hudspeth (Louisville), Delvin Zinn (Pontotoc) and Drake Rowton (Marion, AR).
Hudspeth, Zin and Rowton all picked up RBI's on their hits and Timothy Rowe (Hernando) picked up one by reaching on a fielder's choice.
Box rounded out the scoring in the inning with a RBI double to give the Indians a 9-1 lead.
With the big lead, JT Salters (Bay Minette, AL) continued to dominate the Williams Baptist hitters and finished the day with 11 strikeouts.
The Indians ended the contest early as Rowe plated a run on sacrifice fly and Austin Carpenter (Belmont) ripped a double to score Zinn and end the game and give ICC the 11-1 run-rule victory.
Salters improved to 2-0 with his five innings of work where he allowed only two hits.
