Bats heat up to help baseball earn split with Calhoun

FULTON, MS - ICC dropped Game 1 7-3 before rebounding with an 11-3 win to earn a split with Calhoun (AL) Community College on Saturday at Roy Cresap Field.
Blake Bennett (Memphis, TN) paced the Indians (5-1) in Game 2, scattering five hits and striking out four while allowing three earned runs.
The Indians (5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Delvin Zinn (Pontotoc) scored on a throwing error by the catcher and stretched the lead out to 3-0 in the third on back-to-back solo home runs by Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) and Timothy Rowe (Hernando).
Calhoun (9-7) rallied with a pair of runs in the fourth but the Indians answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Russ Payne (Fulton) singled and scored on a single by Zinn. Keith Stepter (Hernando) singled and scored when Rowe was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. Ben Seay (Mooreville) drew a five-pitch walk and scored on a two-out single by Bryan Malone (Belmont). Rowe and Brandon Williams (Grenada), running for Malone, scored on a single by Cody Pate (Amory) to give the Indians an 8-2 lead.
The Warhawks pushed across a run in the fifth and had another answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 11-3 lead.
Stepter, who doubled to start the inning, and Rowton, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a double by Rowe. Rowe scored the final run of the game on a hard-hit double to the gap by Ty Wheeler (Tupelo).
The Indians manufactured 11 runs on 12 hits.
ICC will host NAIA foe Williams Baptist College (5-7) on Thursday, February 25 with Game 1 of the doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
