FULTON, MS - The Lady Indians opened the season with an impressive 9-0 win over rival Northeast at the Johnson-Partlow Tennis Courts on Friday.

In singles action, all eyes were on the No. 3 match-up when Kacey Byrd (Mooreville) squared off against Katey Gardner, who was a member of the 2015 conference and region champion Lady Indians squad before transferring to Northeast this season.

Byrd picked up a 6-1 victory in the opening set before Gardner battled back to pull even with a 6-4 win in the second set. The two friends fought through long rallies before Byrd was able to earn the point with a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker in a match that lasted nearly an hour and a half.

Leading 3-0 heading into singles play, ICC (1-0) saw Madison Scott (Mooreville) take care of Starla Rogers in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play.

In No. 1 singles action, Jordan Roberts (Shannon) defeated Annie Tumbleson 6-2, 6-0 before Andria Barnes (Mooreville) secured the victory for the Lady Indians with a 6-1, 6-3 win ove Kerston Jumper.

Meredith Lee (Nettleton) knocked off Calin Holley 6-3, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. Danielle May (Saltillo) completed the clean sweep for the Lady Indians with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Amber Morris in No. 6 singles play.

The Lady Idians swept doubles play with Roberts and Bryd beating Tumbleson and Rogers 8-0 in No. 1 play. In No. 2 doubles, Scott and Barnes took care of Jumper and Gardner 8-4 while Lee and May completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Britteny Rencher and Calin Holley in No. 3 doubles action.
