Moorhead, Miss. – The Lady Indians started the season with a 71-60 road win over Mississippi Delta Thursday night behind a career night for sophomore guard Scarlett Guess (Blue Mountain).
Guess led the Lady Indians with a career-high 17 points highlighted with five three-pointers. Also, stepped up to help the Tribe earn the victory was freshman Amelya Hatch (Ripley), who opened her collegiate career with a 13-point performance.
The Lady Indians (1-0, 1-0 MACCC North) took an early lead and held an 18-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter. BY halftime, the Lady Indians held a six point, 35-29, lead.
In the second half, the Lady Indians extended their lead to 52-39 by the end of the third and despite a late push by the Lady Trojans, who scored 21 points in the final frame, the Tribe held on to start the season with a road victory.
The Lady Indians shot 42.6 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent (14-21) from the free throw line.
Next up for the Lady Indians will be the Northwest Lady Rangers who head to Fulton after suffering a 78-53 season opening loss to the defending North Division champs, East Mississippi. Tip-off is schedule for 5:30 p.m. Monday night in the Davis Event Center and tickets are available now at iccms.edu/etickets while supplies last.
