FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College sophomore guard Shaniyah Buford was named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week in a league announcement Tuesday.
The Abbeville native had a career week for the Lady Indians (2-1) scoring 47 points while shooting 70 percent from the floor (16-27), 43 percent from three-point land (7-13) and was perfect from the charity stripe making all eight of her free throw attempts.
Buford also grabbed seven rebounds, picked up five assists and five steals as the Lady Indians went 1-1 last week.
In the 85-80 overtime loss to No. 6 Shelton State (Ala.) Community College, Buford scored a career-high 33 points, shooting 10-19 from the field. She put up 14 points while shooting 6-8 from the field in the 79-47 win over Baton Rouge (La.) Community College.
The Lady Indians and Buford will be in action tonight at Gadsden State (Ala.) Community College at 5:30 pm.
