Lady Indians' season ends on a coin toss

Lady Indians' season ends on a coin toss

FULTON, Miss. – After a grueling 22-game season, the Lady Indians' season came to an end after a coin toss on Wednesday.

The Lady Indians (14-8) and the Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers (13-10) were both eliminated from the opening round of the MACJC Tournament on Tuesday and finished the season tied in region play to force the region into an unprecedented scenario.

Though there is no official coin toss rule in the national tie-breaking procedures, both college's athletic directors and coaches agreed to allow the coin toss as the final option to determine who will advance to next week's region tournament.

Neither team played a common region opponent during the regular season, eliminating the possibility of the common opponent tiebreaker option.

The coin toss took place at Southwest Mississippi Community College by Region 23 women's director Brent Harris and was filmed with additional witnesses on hand. The Lady Indians were assigned heads and the Lady Rangers were assigned tails with the coin ultimately settling on tails.

Northwest will enter the region tournament as the No. 8 seed and will face the winner of this week's MACJC Tournament at Mississippi College on Monday.
