TUSCALOOSA, AL - The Lady Indians lost their third-straight game after dropping a hard-fought 100-76 decision at No. 4 Shelton State (AL) Community College on Monday.
After a slow start to the contest, the Lady Indians (2-3) rallied late to make it a 22-15 game after the first quarter of play and kept pace with the nationally-ranked Lady Bucs in the second quarter to go into the break with a 46-38 deficit.
Shelton State took advantage of second and sometimes third shot opportunities throughout the third quarter to take a 73-60 lead into the final frame before pulling away from an exhausted Lady Indian squad for the 100-76 victory.
Sophomores Aaliyaha Thornton (Hernando) and Marlee Hatcher (Pontotoc) scored a team-high 16 points each while freshman Constance Dunn (Fulton) added 12 points in the loss.
Raven Russell came off the bend to pace Shelton State with 17 points. Three other Lady Bucs scored in double figures.
Crashing to victory
Shelton State outrebounded the Lady Indians 50 to 28 with 22 boards coming on the offensive side of the floor. The Lady Indians only managed 17 offensive rebounds while committing a season-high 27 turnovers.
Coming of Age
Dunn continues to quickly adjust to the speed of the game on the collegiate level. The freshman added three rebounds to her season-high 12 points in her first start of the season.
There's No Place Like Home
For the fifth time in six games this season, the Lady Indians will hit the road as they travel to West Memphis, Arkansas to take on Arkansas State Mid-South before traveling to Goodman, MS to face the Holmes Bulldogs in the first division game of the season.
