
Lady Indians come up short against No. 4 Shelton State

FULTON, MS - After trailing by 23 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Lady Indians rallied to pull within seven but couldn't complete the comeback in a 71-62 loss to No. 4 Shelton State Community College.
After finishing the first quarter tied 20-20, the Lady Bucs (5-0) outscored the Lady Indians 22-9 in the second frame to take a commanding 42-29 lead into the locker room at the break.
The red-hot Lady Bucs would bully their way out to a 26-point lead in the third quarter after Jessica Ray opened the second quarter by hitting back-to-back-to-back three pointers. The two teams traded baskets until the Lady Indians went on a small run to grab a little momentum heading into the final frame.
Marlee Hatcher (Pontotoc) buried her first three pointer of the night to spark a 9-0 run to open the fourth quarter and force Shelton State to take a timeout with seven minutes, 37 seconds left in the game and the Lady Indians down 62-48.
Grace Elliott (New Site) connected on back-to-back threes to make it a 10-point contest, 64-54, inside six minutes to play, but Shelton would answer with a seven to three run to take a 71-57 lead before holding on for the nine-point victory.
Jabria Pounds (Nettleton) led the Lady Indians with 16 points and 11 rebounds with Asia Partlow (Tupelo) adding 13 points.
Cierra Johnson paced Shelton State with 22 points.
ICC fell to 2-1 with the loss and will look to rebound on the road Thursday night against Jones County Junior College.
Shelton State Out
The Lady Bucs outrebounded the Lady Indians 48-22 while its bench outscored the Lady Indians' bench 24-11.
Seeing Double
Pounds had her first double, double of the season and fifth of her career as a Lady Indian after scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. On the Road Again… and again… and again… and again…
ICC will finish out the month of November with a pair of road games at Jones County (Nov. 17) and Shelton State (Nov. 28) and will open the month of the December with two more road games against Arkansas State Mid-South (Dec. 1) and Holmes (Dec. 5). The Lady Indians' next home game will be against Wallace-Selma (Dec. 7).
