CLARKSDALE, Miss – The Itawamba Community College Lady Indians extended their winning streak to 11 and remained unbeaten in North Division play with a 82-57 win over the Coahoma Lady Tigers Thursday night.
Sophomore forwards Lanikki McMillian (Pontotoc) and Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch) scored a team-high 14 points each, and McMillian grabbed 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. The duo and freshman guard Ericka Toney (Horn Lake) helped the Lady Indians overcome a deficit by leading an 8-0 run in what was a back-and-forth affair early.
The Lady Indians (16-2, 7-0 MACJC North Division) continued to add to their lead and were up 40-25 at halftime; however, the Lady Tigers were not going away quietly as they opened the second half with a deep 3-pointer.
The teams traded baskets early in the second half, but the duo of McMillian and Kneeland led the Lady Indians on a 12-2 run to extend the advantage to 22 points. The Lady Indians captured their biggest lead of the game, 28 points, on a pair of free throws by Treasure Evans (Horn Lake), who finished with a season-high eight points. The Lady Indians didn't have their best shooting performance at 47 percent, but they were able to cruise to victory and extend the program's win streak to the longest since the 2011-12 season.
Toney finished with her second consecutive double digit performance with 10 points.
The Lady Indians return to the comfort of the Davis Event Center Monday as they host the Northwest Lady Rangers. Tipoff is schedule for 6 p.m., and it will be a "Pink Out" for the Lady Indians annual breast cancer awareness as part of the national Play4Kay/Pink Zone observance.
