
Lady Indians defeat Holmes in North Division showdown

FULTON, MS – Big performances from Jayla Chills (Ripley), Jeronia Allen (Minden, LA), Alontra Tucker (Lamar) and Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch) propelled the Lady Indians to their seventh consecutive victory as they defeated Holmes 85-79 Monday night.
The Lady Indians (12-2, 3-0) took an early lead and extended it to as much 17-points in the first half. The large lead came off the hands of Allen who drained a trio of 3-points and picked up 14-points in the half. Chills and Kneeland where right on her heels as they picked up 9-points each in the first half to give the Lady Indians a 39-23 at the break.
Early in the second half the Lady Indians extended their lead to 20-points after a Chills 3-pointer. However, the Lady Bulldogs slowly began to chip away. With 8:21 left to play, Carmesha Nalls hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs cutting the lead down to 66-61. A short range jumper from Lanikki McMillian (Pontotoc) and a basket from Tucker kept the Lady Indians on top as the game entering the closing minutes.
The Lady Bulldogs continued pulling closer, but the Lady Indians had an answer as they shot 7-9 from the charity stripe down the stretch to pick up the 85-79 North Division win.
Chills led the Lady Indians with 25-points, followed by Allen who finished with 20-points. Tucker added 13-points for the Lady Indians and Kneeland rounded out the scoring with 10-points. Kneeland also picked up 15-rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.
The Lady Indians jumped right back into North Division play on Thursday when they travel to Booneville for a rival showdown with the Northeast Lady Tigers. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game will be live streamed on LetsGoICC.com and can be heard on FM95 (95.7) and FM95radio.com with the Davis Ford Pregame show beginning at 5:10 p.m.
