Big innings doom Indians in Senatobia

SENATOBIA, Miss. – The Indians gave up three big innings in non-conference losses to Northeast and Northwest on Tuesday.

Game 1: Northeast 15, Indians 6

The Indians gave up seven runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh in a 15-6 loss to Northeast.

Down 1-0 after one complete, the Indians pulled even when Stone Collier scored on a single to left by Jarrett Morris. The Tigers answer with a run in the third and two in the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage.

The Indians rallied with three runs to take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Jaxin Settlemires drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ty Wicker. Jude Treadaway scored on a passed ball before Collier doubled to score Lee and Settlemires.

The Tigers answered with seven runs in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, 11-5. The Indians could only manage one run in bottom half of the inning when Wicker scored on a fielder's choice.

Collier, Morris and Treadaway each had two hits. Collier and Treadaway both had a double.

Tyler Yearwood was the pitcher of record after giving up two runs on one hit and one walk in one-third inning of work.

Game 2: Northwest 9, Indians 5

The Rangers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up a 9-5 win over the Indians in the nightcap.

Northwest jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Indians could rally to put a four spot on the board in the top of the third. Collier ripped a single to left to plate Yearwood to get things heated up in the inning. Morris followed with a double to score Settlmires and Bo Rock. Collier scored on a ground out to second by Brock Ware.

The Rangers pulled even with a home run and sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.

The Indians retook the lead when Hayden Roberts was hit by a pitch with bases loaded in the top of the sixth. Northwest rallied with a two-run home run and back-to-back RBI singles to take a 9-5 advantage heading into the final frame.

The Indians got a pair of base runners on in the top of the seventh but the Rangers close the door on the Indians' rally with a strikeout to end the game.

Collier finished the game with three hits and Ware added two more. 

Eli Akins was the pitcher of record for the Indians after giving up six runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out seven in 5 innings. 

The Indians will travel to Northwest-Shoals on Saturday.
