TANNER, Ala. – The Indians (2-2) split a doubleheader at Calhoun on Thursday after the second game of the day was called due to darkness.
Game 1: ICC 5, Calhoun 4
The Indians took a 5-4 advantage in the top of the seventh when Stone Collier reached on an error that allowed Ben Davis to score from second.
The two teams traded leads throughout the contest.
ICC took a 1-0 advantage in the first inning when Jackson Lee scored on an error by the third baseman after tagging up and advancing to third on a fly out by Davis.
Calhoun answered with three runs in the bottom of the second, but the Indians bounced back to tie the game in the fourth when Collier scored on a single by Jarrett Morris and Hayden Roberts stole home.
The Warhawks answered with a run in the home half of the fourth to retake the lead, 4-3.
Ty Wicker ripped a single to center to push across Dre McCray to tie the game in the sixth and open the door for the Indians to push across the eventual game-winning run in the seventh.
Brayden Billingsley (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Davis. Billingsley gave up one hit with a walk and a strikeout in three scoreless innings of work. Davis gave up four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two in four innings.
McCray, Roberts and Jaxin Settlemires each had a pair of hits in the win.
Game 2: Calhoun 9, ICC 8 (6 innings)
Calhoun scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-8 lead and picked up the win after the game was called due to darkness.
Down 3-0, the Indians got on the board when McCray scored on a single by Tyler Yearwood in the second. The Warhawks tacked on a home run in the third to take a 4-1 advantage.
Settlemires reached on an error that allowed Roberts to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the fourth. Calhoun answered with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to push its lead out to 6-2.
Bo Rock sparked the Indians' four-run fifth inning with a solo home run to start the inning. Collier scored when a pitch hit Lee with bases loaded before a two-run single by Settlemires to plate Morris and McCray.
The Indians took their first lead of the game on a two-run single to score McCray and Kaylan Powell in the sixth. The Warhawks took advantage of a bases-loaded walk and back-to-back hit batters in the bottom half of the inning and pick up the one-run win.
Eli Akins (0-1) was the pitcher of record after giving up five earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out four in 2.1 innings of work.
Rock finished the game with three hits while Morris added two more.
Calhoun is an aviator school and regulations do not allow them to have lights on their baseball and softball fields. Both coaches agreed to play as many innings as they could before calling game in the nightcap.
ICC will host Calhoun for its home opener on Wednesday.
