FULTON - Two sophomore baseball players have signed to continue their student-athlete careers: Ben Davis (Booneville) to Mississippi State University and Jaxin Settlemires (Kossuth) to the University of Memphis.
Last season, Davis had a 7-2 record on the mound, leading the Indians with a 3.76 earned run average. He also recorded 57 strikeouts in 64 innings pitched, four or more in eight games. Two were nine-strikeout performances against Mississippi Delta during the last month of the regular season and against Northeast during the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
As a freshman, Settlemires batted in 49 runs and hit 10 homers. He had a .360 batting average, four stolen bases, a .417 on base percentage and .640 slugging percentage. In the outfield, Settlemires was 33 of 37 in putouts, resulting in a .892 fielding percentage. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four runs batted in during the Indians' 8-4 win against Hinds.
