Indians split home doubleheader with Co-Lin

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians split a home doubleheader with Co-Lin on Saturday, winning the first game of the day in run-rule fashion.

Game 1: Indians 16, Co-Lin 4 (5 innings)

Bryce Capobianco had a big game in the Indians' run-rule win over Co-Lin. The sophomore right fielder went three for three with a double, a grand slam and six RBI – he also added a sac fly to his opening-game performance.

Will Verdung, Connar Gardner, Matthew Martinolich and Drew Capobianco each added two hits to the Indians' 12 hits in the game. Verdung and Gardner each had a double. Verdung and Martinolich each had three RBI while Gardner added two more in the win.

Taylor Tarver improved to 1-0 on the season have giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits and five walks with one strikeout in five innings of work.

Game 2: Co-Lin 9, Indians 7

The Indians struggle to find outs and Co-Lin took advantage to earn a split with a 9-7 win in the nightcap.

Co-Lin used a four-run sixth inning to take a two-run lead.

Bryce Capobianco, Terris Meeks and Gardner each had a pair of hits in the loss. Gardner, Verdung and Eli Hancock had a double. Gardner and Drew Capobianco each had two RBI.

Verdung (0-3) was the pitcher of record after giving up three runs, all unearned, on three hits and one strikeout in an inning of work. The Indians used four pitchers in the game, including starter Collin Babin.

The Indians are scheduled to back in action as they step out of conference play and travel to Jackson State (TN) Community College on Tuesday.
