No. 17 Indians swept by Snead State

No. 17 Indians swept by Snead State

Fulton, Miss. - When ICC and Snead State meet for a baseball doubleheader, the finishes are normally memorable and the game are hard fought battles. Tuesday's matchup was not any different from past meetings with game one featuring two 10 plus run innings and game two being won on the long ball.

Snead State pick up the sweep Tuesday winning a wild game one, 23-16, and taking game two 6-1.

Game 1: Parsons 23, Indians 16

The Indians (3-3) trailed early in game one but took an 11-3 lead after scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the third. In the next three frames, Snead State would chip away at the big lead scoring three runs in each inning. The three-run sixth, tied the game at 12-12.

Terris Meeks (Olive Branch), who went 3-for-6 with three RBI, gave the Indians a one run lead, 13-12, in the bottom of the sixth with a single that scored Ty Roberson (Ecru), who went 2-fof-4 with two RBI in the game.  However, the lead wouldn't hold as the Parsons scored 11 runs in the top of the seventh on two hits and eight walks.

The Indians pushed across three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the deficit was too big to overcome.

Despite the loss, Blaine Ware (Batesville) was a perfect 5-for-5 in the game with four RBI and a pair of doubles. Will Verdung (Corinth) also had a big game at the plate going 4-for-5 with two RBI. Drew Capobianco (Saltillo) drove in three runs and Connar Gardner (Southaven) had two RBI as well.

Game 2: Parsons 6, Indians 1

The Indians struggle to find hits early in the nightcap while the Parsons took the lead courtesy of the long ball. In the second, the Parsons took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run and extended it to 2-0 on a RBI single.

The Parsons hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the third and added another run to take a 6-0 lead.

Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) drove in the Indians' lone run on a single in the bottom of the fifth. Davis and Meeks both finished 2-for-4 in the game.

The Indians will look to rebound Saturday when they host Lake Land College for a doubleheader with game one scheduled for noon.
