Davis strikes out 10 in split with Snead State

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians earned a split with Snead State after picking up a 2-0 win in game one and dropping a 6-4 decision in game two.

Game 1: Indians 2, Snead State 0 [Highlights]

Mississippi State signee Ben Davis (3-0) struck out 10 batters and only allowed three hits with three walks in six scoreless innings against an offense that had scored 111 runs in 12 games coming into Saturday's doubleheader.

Snead State looked primed to get things going when they loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning, but Davis answered with three-straight Renasant Bank strikeouts to get out of the jam.

The Indians got on the board when Jude Treadaway drew a bases-loaded walk to score Dre McCray in the second inning. Bo Rock pushed the lead out to 2-0 on a sacrifice fly that scored Jaxin Settlemires in the third.

Rock replaced Davis on the hill in the top of the seventh and closed the door on any chance at a rally for the Parsons.

The Indians totaled six hits in the game. Jarrett Morris was 2-for-3 at the plate while Settlemires and Stone Collier each had a double.

Game 2: Snead State 6, Indians 5 [Highlights]

Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, the Indians sparked a rally when Morris ripped a two-out single to left to score Rock and Jackson Lee, but a ground ball to second ended the threat and helped the Parsons earn the split with the 6-5 win.

The Indians struck first when Morris reached on an error that allowed Settlemires to score in the first before Brock Ware made it a two-run contest with his first home run of the season to start the second inning.

Snead rallied to tie the game, 2-2, in the third inning, but the Indians answered with a single by Lee to score Ware in the fourth.

The Parsons countered with three runs in the fifth and picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice bunt.

The Indian had eight hits with Ware's home run being the only extra base hit. Settlemires was 3-for-4 while Kaylan Powell went 2-for-3 on the evening.

Ty Wicker (0-1) was the pitcher of record after giving up five runs, two earned, on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

Up Next: The Indians will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Northwest to take on the Rangers and Northeast in a pair of non-conference games. The games, originally scheduled for Wednesday, were moved up with rain expected to move into the area.
