Meridian, Miss. – ICC saw the baseball season come to a close Friday with a pair of losses to No. 8 Meridian.
Despite an early lead, the Indians dropped a 13-6 game one decision and fell 8-2 in game two.
Game 1: Eagles 13, Indians 6
The Indians (19-21, 13-15 MACCC) held a 4-2 lead after the first three innings of the nine inning game, but a 10 run bottom of the fourth for Meridian created a deficit too big to overcome.
Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) and Will Verdung (Corinth) led the Indians offensively with two hits each and hit back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh. Davis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Verdung went 2-for-3.
Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) picked up two RBI on one hit in the loss.
Game 2: Eagles 8, Indians 2
In game two, the Indians were held hitless for most of the contest but were able to score two runs over the final two innings on a sacrifice fly by Drew Capobianco (Saltillo) and a double by Davis.
Meridian scored single runs in the first, third and fourth before putting up a five spot in the fifth on their way to the 8-2 win and the sweep.
The game two loss knocked the Indians out of the playoff race to close the book on the 2022 season.
