Indians fall to East Mississippi

Indians fall to East Mississippi

Scooba, Miss. – The Indians dropped two tough one loss decisions to East Mississippi Tuesday. In the game one The Lions rallied to pick up a 15-14 comeback win in game one and scored four late runs to win game two, 4-3.

Game 1: Lions 15, Indians 14

There was no shortage of offense in game one as they team combined for 29 runs on 35 hits and hit four home runs each.

The Indians offense was hot early in the game scoring four runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a two-run home run from Connar Gardner (Southaven).

In the second inning, the Indians scored 4 runs again, but all four runs came off of home runs as Will Verdung (Corinth) hits a three-run shot and Blaine Ware (Batesville) added a solo home run.

Verdung would knock in two more runs in the top of the third to give ICC a 10-0 lead.

The Lions would begin to chip away at the big lead in the bottom of the third scoring three runs, and the team would exchange one-run frames through the fourth and fifth

Verdung would hit his second home run of the day in the top of the sixth to give the Indians a nine-run lead, 14-5. However, the Lions would answer with six runs in the bottom half of the inning and then tie the game with a three-run seventh.

The Indians fell behind for the first time in the bottom of the eighth and the Lions would get out of a bases loaded situation in the top of the ninth to pick up the 15-14 win.

Game 2: Lions 4, Indians 3

The Indians came out and took an early lead in game two when Drew Capobianco (Saltillo) singled to score two runs in the top of the second.

After three scoreless innings, Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) extended the Indians lead to 3-0 with a solo home run in the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Lions put together another comeback and scored four runs, three of which scored on a home run.

The Indians were unable to tie the game in the seventh, falling 4-3.

Next up for the Indians is another conference doubleheader when they host Copiah-Lincoln on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
