Indians fall at No. 2 Pearl River

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – ICC dropped a pair of a conference road games Friday falling 15-7 in game one and 5-2 in game two to No. 2 Pearl River.

Game 1: Wildcats 15, Indians 7 (8-innings)

The Indians (14-18, 8-12 MACCC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first with Connar Gardner (Southaven), Eli Hancock (Houston) and Blaine Ware (Batesville) driving in runs with two-out singles.

The Wildcats plated six runs in the bottom of the third, but a Will Verdung (Corinth) sacrifice fly and a Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) RBI single tied the game at six in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats regained the lead scoring two runs, but the Indians stayed answered with a run on a bases loaded walk by Davis cutting the lead to 8-7 in the top of the sixth.

However, the Wildcats would score seven unanswered runs over the next three innings to pick up the 15-7 run-rule victory.

Game 2: Wildcats 5, Indians 2

The Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run in the bottom of the second, but the Indians cut the lead to 2-1 on a sacrifice fly by Davis in the third.

Two key plays at the plate in the bottom of the third where Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) and Bryce Capobianco (Saltillo) both threw out runners to keep the Indians deficit at one run.

A wild pitch in the top of the sixth by the Wildcats allowed Davis to score and tie the contest at 2-2.

The Wildcats regained the lead on a two-run scoring two-out double in the bottom of the sixth, and added an insurance run on a RBI single. The three-run frame propelled the Wildcats to the 5-2 win and the sweep.

Next up for the Indians is another conference road doubleheader when they go to Coahoma Community College Wednesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
