DECATUR, MS – After dropping game one, Itawamba Community College scored seven runs on nine hits to pick up a 9-6 win and the split with East Central Community College Friday night.
Only one of the Indians (26-10, 13-7 MACJC) nine hits went for extra bases but it was the biggest hit of the night as Russ Payne (Fulton) drove in three runs with his bases loaded triple in the fifth inning. Payne's hit gave the Indians a5-3 lead, but the tribe's lead was cut to one in the bottom of the inning.
Over the final final three innings however, Reid Carter (Houston) shut down the Warriors holding them to only two hits while the Indians added two insurance runs in the final frame.
The first insurance run was a painful one as Hunter Nabors (Montevallo, AL) was hit a by a pitch with the bases loaded and Keith Stepter (Hernando) scored on a ground out.
Steffon Moore (West Point) picked up the win on the hill to improve to 5-1 this season and Carter wrapped up a successful week where he three and two thirds of relief and allowed only two hits.
After a long week on the road, the Indians will now close out the final two weeks of the season at home which will be a huge advantage as the playoff race heats up.
The Indians are currently in third place but have a tough close to the schedule as they host four teams fighting for their own spot in the postseason. Next up for the Indians is Mississippi Delta, who is fresh off a 3-0 win over No. 1 Jones County. First pitch from Roy Cresap Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
