
No. 12 Indians completes sweep of Coahoma with tough 2-0 win in game two

CLARKSDALE, MS – The Itawamba Community College baseball team completed the sweep Coahoma Community College Wednesday with a gutsy 2-0 win in game two.
The Indians (25-9, 12-6 MACJC) plated the games only two runs in the top of the fourth on a Russ Payne (Fulton) RBI singles and Keith Stepter (Hernando) scoring on a ground out.
Pitching proved to the be the real difference in the contest as three Indian pitchers combined for the shutout. Jon Morgan Payne (Belmont) got the start and the win as he threw four strong innings and allowed only three hits.
Sam Harrington (Mooreville), who closed out game one, threw two and third innings and allowed four hits and Reid Carter (Houston) picked up his first save of the year as he sat down the only two batters he faced to preserve the 2-0 win for the Indians.
The sweep puts the Indians in third place in the conference standings and are one game back of second place Hinds Community College, who the tribe will close the regular season with on May 6.
However, the Indians face their final road test of the 2017 season Friday as they travel to Decatur for a doubleheader with an East Central Community College that was ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation this season. The Warriors have fell out of the rankings but are only two games back of the Indians in the conference standings. First pitch of the twin bill is set for 4 p.m.
