Zinn signs with Cubs

PONTOTOC, MS – Itawamba Community College freshman shortstop Delvin Zinn signed a professional baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs Tuesday.
The signing comes three weeks after Zinn was selected in by the Cubs in 23rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
Zinn, who was rated as the No. 232 overall prospect prior to the draft, finished his only season with the Indians with 72 hits in the leadoff position while stealing a team-high seven bases and hit .411 in the leadoff spot.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Pontotoc native also boasted a .464 on-base percentage and picked up 34 RBI in a team-high 175 at-bats. On the defensive side, Zinn had an .899 fielding percentage, assisted on 18 double plays, recorded 67 put outs and finished with a team-high 103 assist.
During the season, Zinn picked up at least one hit in 39 of his 45 games played and scored 41 runs to help the Indians reach the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) playoffs and earn MACJC All-State Honors.
Zinn is the 18th Indian selected in the MLB draft and is expected the join the Cubs' Arizona League team next week with the possibility of a quick move up to the Short-A Eugene Emeralds.
