Zinn selected by Chicago in MLB Draft

FULTON, MS – Freshman shortstop Delvin Zinn was selected in the 23rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft as the 704th overall pick by the Chicago Cubs.
Zinn was rated as the No. 232 overall prospect and the No. 9 prospect in Mississippi by Baseball America. He was drafted in the 28th round of the 2015 MLB Draft as the 833rd overall pick by the Cubs, but elected to sign with Mississippi State University before transferring to ICC in December.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Pontotoc native finished the season leading the Indians with 72 hits in the leadoff position while stealing a team-best seven bases. He was second amongst players with more than 100 at-bats with a .411 batting average and was second on the team with a .464 on-base percentage. He finished the season with 34 RBI in a team-high 175 at-bats.
During the season, Zinn only had six of 45 games played without a hit and had 16 games with multiple hits to earn Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State honors while helping the Indians finish 27-20 and advance to the opening round of the MACJC playoffs.
He was a Perfect Game honorable mention All-American and Southeast All-Region Second Team selection in 2015. Zinn hit .346 with seven doubles, a home run, 17 RBI and stole nine bases as a senior at Pontotoc High School.
Zinn is the 18th Indian to hear his named called in the draft and the first since left-handed pitcher and fellow Pontotoc County native Chris Hilliard (Ecru) was selected by the New York Mets in 38th round of the 2008 draft.
