FULTON, MS – As the regular season came to a close around the MACJC Tuesday, the Itawamba Community College baseball program finished seventh in the conference and will face Meridian Community College in the opening round of playoffs this weekend.
The Indians (26-18, 14-14 MACJC) began the month of April at the bottom of the conference standings, but went a tear in the final month of the season, winning 12 games and climbing as high as sixth place.
On Saturday, the Indians wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of Copian-Lincoln Community College to clinch a playoff berth, but had to wait on the rest of the league to finish Tuesday.
Once the dust settled and the final eight teams had been set, the Indians fell to seventh as Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College swept Northeast Mississippi Community College to move into sixth place.
Meridian, who split with conference leader Jones County Junior College Tuesday, finished the season second in the MACJC with a 20-8 conference record and was 37-9 overall.
On March 25, the teams split the conference doubleheader with the Eagles escaping with a 10-8 game one win and the Indians taking game two, 10-3.
