Baseball's late rally falls short in game one

SENATOBIA, MS – Itawamba Community College's baseball team scored five runs over three innings to cut Northwest Mississippi Community College's lead to one, but their rally fell just short as they were unable to tie the contest and dropped an 8-7 decision.
The Indians (14-11, 2-7 MACJC) trailed 5-2 after five innings, but were able to cut the deficit to two as Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) scored from third on a passed ball. After the Rangers' answered with a run of their own the bottom half of the inning, Timothy Rowe (Hernando) launched a two run home run in the seventh to pull the Indians within one, 6-5.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rangers (13-10, 5-6 MACJC) would answer the call again as Jake McPhail hit a two run home run to push the lead back to three.
Keith Stepter (French Camp) pulled the Indians back within one in the eight on his double in the right field gap that scored Hagan Box (French Camp) and Tyreque Reed (Houlka). However, the Indians were unable to get anything going in the final frame to fall 8-7 in game one.
Despite a total of 15 runs scored in the contest, both starting pitchers threw well combining for 13 strikeouts and only two walks. Northwest's Peyton Plumlee picked up the win with his seven strikeout, two walk performance while Jonas White (Lewisburg) was hit with the loss.
